Duke Energy Smart $aver pays North Carolina residential customers for heat pump installations and energy-efficient HVAC upgrades. The program covers heat pumps ($300–$500), heat pump water heaters ($300), and central air conditioners ($150). Combined with federal 25C (30% up to $2,000), the Duke + federal stack on a $12,000 heat pump install delivers $2,300–$2,500 in incentives. Duke also operates Smart $aver for South Carolina (similar amounts).
