SRP Battery Storage Rebate

$250 per kWh up to $3,600

Salt River Project (SRP) — the Phoenix metro municipal-style utility — offers one of Arizona's most generous battery storage rebates at $250 per kWh of installed capacity, capped at $3,600 per residence. A typical Tesla Powerwall 3 (13.5 kWh) qualifies for the full $3,375. The rebate stacks with the federal 25D credit (30% uncapped) for total battery incentives of approximately $7,500 on a $13,000 install. SRP's rebate is particularly valuable because the SRP E-27 demand-charge tariff penalizes solar-without-storage households — making battery essentially required for reasonable solar economics on SRP territory.

Eligibility

Who qualifies?

SRP residential customers with grid-connected battery storage 3 kWh or larger (federal 25D minimum). SRP rebate may have higher minimum.

Equipment requirements?

Battery must be SRP-approved (Tesla Powerwall, Generac PWRcell, Enphase IQ, LG ESS, FranklinWH, others).

Pre- or post-install?

Pre-install reservation required. SRP allocates funds at reservation; rebate paid after commissioning.

How to apply for SRP Battery

  1. Verify SRP service

SRP serves Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, parts of Chandler. Not APS or TEP.

  2. Choose SRP-approved installer

    List at srpnet.com.

  3. Reserve rebate at contract

Installer files reservation with SRP. Approval typically 1–3 weeks.

  4. Install and commission

Standard battery install. SRP interconnection sign-off triggers rebate payment.

Stacking with other programs

Stacks with federal 25D (30%, uncapped on standalone batteries 3+ kWh), Arizona state credit ($1,000 cap, applies to combined solar+battery), and any solar incentives. SRP's combination of demand charge + battery rebate makes battery storage the single most valuable upgrade for SRP solar customers.

Frequently asked questions

Why is SRP's battery rebate so important? +
SRP residential E-27 tariff includes a demand charge based on highest 30-min usage. Solar without battery does not reduce demand charge meaningfully. Battery shaves the demand peak and restores solar economics. SRP recognizes this with the rebate.
APS customers — equivalent program? +
APS does not run a battery rebate of similar size. APS customers get federal 25D 30% and Arizona state credit (capped at $1,000 total combined for solar+battery).
Stack with federal 25D? +
Yes. SRP reduces basis; federal 30% applies to net cost. On a $13,000 Powerwall: SRP $3,375 → basis $9,625. Federal 30% = $2,888. Total $6,263.
