Oncor Solar PV Standard Offer Program

~$2,500 for 6 kW residential install

Oncor Take A Load Off Texas Solar PV Standard Offer Program is the residential solar rebate offered by Oncor — the wires utility serving Dallas-Fort Worth and most of north and west Texas. The program pays approximately $2,500 for a typical 6 kW residential solar installation, applied to projects regardless of which Retail Electric Provider (REP) the customer uses. Texas has retail electric competition, so the rebate decoupled from the REP relationship — what matters is your meter being on Oncor wires. The rebate caps annually and is first-come first-served against allocation. Texas has no state-level solar credit, making Oncor (and similar utility programs from Austin Energy, CPS Energy, GP&L, Pedernales Coop) the primary state-level incentive layer.

Eligibility

Who qualifies?

Residential customers whose electric meter is on Oncor wires (regardless of REP — Reliant, Green Mountain, Constellation, etc., all qualify).

System size?

Up to 25 kW residential. Most homes install 6–10 kW.

Equipment requirements?

Standard ENERGY STAR PV equipment. No specific cold-climate or efficiency tier requirements (unlike heat pump rebates in colder states).

Stacking with other programs

Stacks with federal 25D (30% post-rebate basis), Texas property tax exemption (100% added value, automatic via Form 50-123), and Texas net metering (REP-dependent — Reliant Truly Free Nights & Solar Days, Green Mountain Renewable Rewards offer 1:1). No state-level solar credit in Texas.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Oncor rebate per-kW or per-watt? +
Performance-based — pays based on actual energy production over the first year. Most 6 kW installs net ~$2,500. Larger systems scale linearly to the cap.
Does Oncor stack with federal 25D? +
Yes. Oncor reduces basis; federal 25D = 30% × (cost − Oncor rebate). On a $20,000 system: Oncor ~$3,300 → basis $16,700. Federal 30% × $16,700 = $5,010. Total $8,310.
How does it compare to Austin Energy or CPS? +
Austin Energy pays $2,500 flat. CPS Energy (San Antonio) pays $0.60/W up to $4,500. Pedernales Coop pays $2,500 typical. GP&L (Garland) pays $3,500 flat. Each utility has different territory and structure.
What if I am on Reliant — does that affect the rebate? +
No. Oncor rebate is wires-utility-based. Your REP only affects retail rate and net metering buyback (some REPs pay 1:1 export, others avoided cost).
